~: NoRrH ANNAtNvlRONMENTIL COALITION Charlottesville, Virginia Mailing Address: .tU OW.u Drift Banta Till*, Alu- 36801 (206) 536-0678 February 22, 1980 Chairman John Ahearne U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. c. 20555

Dear Chairman Ahearne:

After the attached letter was written, NAEC learned of new and additional problems in the

  • steam generator for North Anna Unit #1 (discovered after a janitor's mop accidentally caused the reactor to scram earlier this week).

Thus we would amend our request #1 on page 3 of the 2-18-80 letter enclosed to read:

1. (The Coalition hereby asks the Commissioners to) Keep North Anna #1 out of service pend-ing resolution of the noise problem in steam generators A & B, restoration of normal sec-

. ondary chemistry, installation of steam gen-erator inspection port now as opposed to 1981, inspection for turbine cracks, and installation of redesigned valves in the non-functioning Powdex demineralizer, proscribing restart until satisfactory spill-proof test results are shown.

Thank, you for your professional interest and attention.

Sincerely, e Allen (Mrs. P. M.)
