LESSON LEARNED SHORT TERM REQUIREMENT NUREG - 0578, SECTION 2.1.8.a SURRY UNITS 1 AND 2 NORTH ANNA UNITS 1 AND 2 Serial No. 470 NO/SNK:ms Docket Nos. 50-280 50-281 50-338 50-339 In our letter Serial Number 376 dated April 28, 1980, we stated that a temporary post accident containment atmospheric sampling system should be installed by May 30, 1980, in order to provide the capability of obtaining a containment atmospheric sample within one hour after an accident without incurring a radiation exposure in excess of 3 and 18 3/4 rems to the whole body or extremities, respectively.
- However, our schedule indicates that the installation of the containment atmospheric sampling system should be completed by June 30, 1980.
The design of this temporary sampling system has been completed. This system is being installed for Surry Units 1 and 2 and North Anna Units 1 and 2. The temporary sampling connection will tie into the existing Hydrogen Analyzer system as shown on the attached sketches, 13075-MS-44 a;:nd 45, and will use the Hydrogen Analyzer pump as a motive force for gas <'fiow through the sample lines. Using a graduated syringe and needle, one cc sample can be obtained and diluted for laboratory analysis. This temporary system will be used until a permanent post accident containment atmospheric sampling system is installed (January 1,1981). 80 oao20/1.3
