SUBJECT:

TRIAL OF INDIVIDUALS RESPONSIBLE.FOR DAMAGE TO NEW FUEL The criminal trial for the two individuals who have publicly admitted responsi-b~lity for the damage of new fuel assemblies in storage at Surry began today.

T'ne individuals are each charged with four felonies and one misdemeanor.

A~tempts by ~"RC ~o interview the individuals regarding sta~ements about opera-tional and security problems at.tr1buted to them by the news media have been unsuccessful.

However, in response to NRC efforts, including letters and subpoenas,~ response letter addressed to the Commissioners and outlining their concerns was. delivered by messenger to OELD this morning.
