JOSEPH M. FARLEY NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2, AND VOGTLE ELECTRIC GENERATING PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 -WITHDRAWAL OF PROPOSED ALTERNATIVES FNP-ISI-ALT-05-02 AND VEGP-ISI-ALT-04-02 REGARDING INSTRUMENT LINES ON THE PRESSURIZER (EPIDS L-2017-LLR-0115 AND L-2017-LLR-0116)
Dear Ms. Gayheart:
By letter dated October 6, 2017 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML172858088), Southern Nuclear Operating Company, Inc., (SNC) submitted proposed alternative FNP-ISI-ALT-05-02 for the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant, Units 1 and 2, (Farley) and proposed alternative VEGP-ISI-ALT-04-02 for the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant, Units 1 and 2 (Vogtle). SNC proposed the use of alternative requirements for American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Class 1 upper level instrumentation lines on the pressurizers for Farley and Vogtle.
By letter dated April 23, 2018 (ADAMS Accession No. ML18113A447), SNC requested to withdraw FNP-ISI-ALT-05-02 and VEGP-ISI-ALT-04-02 because the proposed alternatives are not required due to previous U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approval during plant construction. This letter acknowledges the withdrawal of FNP-ISI-ALT-05-02 and VEGP-ISI-ALT-04-02. No further NRC staff review will be performed under EPIDs L-2017-LLR-0115 and L-2017-LLR-0116.
