SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-311/96-19
Dear Mr. Eliason:
On December 1, 1996, the NRC completed a safety inspection of your Salem 2 nuclear
facility. The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.
This inspection was the first in a series of inspections the NRC is conducting to evaluate
the adequacy of the testing which has been proposed for the Salem Unit 2 restart. At the
time the inspection period ended, the inspection effort had not been completed. The
inspections will continue throughout the period of preparation for, and conduct of, the
startup and power ascension testing. Periodic reports will be issued at approximately six
week intervals to notify you of the progress of our evaluations.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter
and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
