MANAGEMENT MEETING ON SALEM REOUALIFICATION TRAINING
Dear Mr. Eliason:
This letter documents our December 5, 1996, meeting with Chris Bakken, Joe Zerbe, and Gabe Solomon of your staff. The meeting was led by Glenn Meyer from the Region I office and Stuart Richards from the office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the status and plans for the Salem licensed operator requalification (LOR) program.
At the meeting your staff provided the attached handout to highlight the status of the Salem LOR program and your plans for those licensed operators who have not yet completed Restart Training. The primary focus of the meeting was to ensure that your LOR program and Restart Training comply with 1 OCFR55, "Operators' Licenses," especially the requirements concerning the continuity of the Salem LOR program, the'administration of annual operating exams, and the performance of requalification training by all of your licensed operators. We understand that your staff will respond to the meeting with a letter documenting how PSE&G intends to maintain the Salem LOR program in compliance with the regulations. There were no decisions or actions requested of the NRC staff at the meeting and none were provided.
In summary, we believe that the December 5, 1996, meeting held to discuss the Salem LOR program was productive, and we look forward to receiving your letter documenting the plans for the program.
