NRC MEETING WITH PSE&G BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Dear Mr. Ferland:
On March 21, 1995, the NRC's Executive Director for Operations, Director, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation and Regional Administrator, Region I, met with Public Service Electric and Gas Company's Board of Directors to discuss NRC concerns with lingering performance problems at the Salem Nuclear Generating Station.
The purpose of the meeting was to assure the Board was cognizant of the seriousness of the concerns and recognized the need for timely improvement in equipment and personnel performance at the Salem facility.
The NRC participants outlined the basis for NRC's concerns, as previously documented in the latest Systematic Assessment of Licensee Performance report, dated January 3, 1995.
The Board of Directors acknowledged the need for improved performance, assured adequate financial support for needed improvements, and expressed appreciation for the meeting.
We appreciate your assistance in arranging this meeting of your Board of Directors.
