Public Service Elect~ic ~nd Gas Company 80 Park Place Newark, New Jersey 07101
Dear Mr. Ferland:
For a number of years, NRC senior managers have observed, with concern, frequent equipment failures and personnel errors at the Salem Generating Station that have precipitated or contributed to significant plant events and trips. While substantial resources and management attention have been expended to address these longstanding concerns, we would like to better understand the Board of Directors' view on the need for continued improvements in equipment reliability and staff performance.
As a result, William Russell, Thomas Martin, and I would like to meet with you and your Board of Directors.
Mr. Martin will contact you shortly to arrange the time and location for such a meeting. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to call me.
