EVALUATION OF TOPICAL REPORT NFU-0039, REVISION 2, "SALEM REACTOR PHYSICS METHODS" (TAC NOS. M81036 AND M81037)

Dear Mr. Eliason:

By letter dated July 2, 1991, you submitted Topical Report NFU-0039 Revision 2, entitled "Salem Reactor Physics Methods".

The topical report describes the benchmark analyses and applications of the TRINODE/CPM/EPRI-CELL code system for use in the Salem Units 1 and 2 reload licensing analyses.

Revision 2 provides the additional benchmarking required for the qualification of the CPM updates to the original calculations methodology.

0 Based on our review of your submittal, as given in the enclosid Safety Evaluation, we find the reload methodology as described in NFU-0039 to be acceptable for licensing applications.
