COMBINED INSPECTION NOS. 50-272/94-28 AND 50-311/94-28
Dear Mr. Eliason: -
This letter refers to the safety inspection conducted by Ms. Laurie Peluso of
this office on October 17-21, 1994 of activities authorized by NRC License
Nos. DPR-70 and DPR-75, at the Salem Generating Station, Hancocks Bridge, New
Jersey and to the discussions of our findings held by Ms. Peluso with Messrs.
Cellmer and Morroni and other members of your staff at the conclusion of the
inspection.
Areas examined during this inspection are important to public .health and
safety, and are described in the NRC Region I Inspection Report which is
enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of
selective examinations of procedures and representative records, interviews
with personnel, and observations by the inspector.
Within the scope of this inspection, excellent implementation of radioactive
liquid and gaseous effluent control programs performed by the Chemistry
- Department was observed.
In addition, we reviewed the progress being made by
your staff to resolve problems with the radiation monitoring system (RMS) and
with the air balance in the Fuel Handling Building and the Auxiliary Building.
We will continue to follow your resolution of .these issues.
No radiological
safety concerns or violations of NRC requirements were observed.
