Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Identified Deficiency Against the State of New Jersey The purpose of this correspondence is to traiismit a June 10, 1994 letter from* Dr. Rita Meyninger, Regional Director, FEMA, Region II to Colonel Carl A. Williams, State Director, Office of Emergency Management, State of New Jersey. The letter relates to the May 24, 1994, Artificial Island Radiological Emergency Preparedness (REP) Exercise, which was observed by representatives of the FEMA, Region II office. During the exerdse, one Deficiency was assessed against the New Jersey Bureau of Nuclear Engineering relative to REP Objective 7, Plume Dose Projection, at the Emergency Operations Facility. Details of the Deficiency are provided in the enclosed letter.
You will note that FEMA has required the State of New Jersey to correct the Deficiency, within 120 days of the date of its letter, through appropriate remedial actions.
In addition to monitoring the remedial action planned by the State, you are requested to render whatever assistance is needed by the State to correct the Deficiency within the specified time. We will be contacting your staff periodically to discuss the progress being made to resolve this issue.
