CONCERN REGARDING ASTA ENGINEERING, INC.

In December 1993, the Nuclear Regulatory Conmission (NRC} received a concern-regarding the adequacy of engineering services provided to the Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G} by a contractor.

Some of the issues could potentially affect nuclear safety-related services or activities. Therefore, we are requesting your organization to investigate this matter.

The enclosure to this letter provides details and specific areas of concern to the NRC which should be addressed in your review.

The enclosure to this letter should be controlled and distribution limited to personnel with a "need-to-know" until your investigation of this matter has been completed and reviewed by the NRC.

The enclosure to this letter is considered as Exempt from Public Disclosure in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regylations (10 CFR), Part 2.790(a}.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Conmission's regulations, a copy of this letter, excluding the enclosure, will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.

We further request that you notify us of the results of your investigation within 120 days of your receipt of this letter. Should your response contain any personal, privacy, proprietary or safeguards information, it should be provided in an enclosure, clearly identified as such, which will be withheld from public disclosure.

The response directed by this letter is not subject to the clearance procedure of the Office of Management and Budget as required by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, PL 96-511.
