Inspection 50-272/93-28; 50-311/93-28; and 50-354/93-28 (12/1-3/93)
This refers to the above subject safeguards inspection of Salem and Hope Creek Generating
Stations by Mr. R. J. Albert of this office. Our preliminary findings were discussed with
Mr. P. Moeller and other members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection.
Areas examined during this inspection are described in the enclosed inspection report.
Within these areas, the inspection consisted of observations by the inspectors, interviews with
personnel, and selective examinations of procedures and representative records.
Our inspection found that your security program was directed toward the protection of public
health and safety. It appeared, however, that your assessment aids have deteriorated to a
point where maintenance is no longer properly effective. We understand that, after extensive
evaluation and planning, you plan to upgrade the assessment aids in the near future. Please
advise us in writing, within 45 days of receiving this letter, as to whether our understanding
is correct and, as applicable, of your plans and schedule for implementing that upgrade.
