SALEM AND HOPE CREEK RESIDENT INSPECTION NOS. 50-272/93-15;
50-311/93-15; 50-354/93-11
The enclosed report documents an inspection to assure public health and safety, conducted by
Mr. T. Johnson and other members of the NRC staff at the Salem and Hope Creek Nuclear
Generating Stations for the period between April 18, 1993 and June 5, 1993. The inspectors
discussed the findings of this inspection with Messrs. C. Vondra and R. Hovey of your staff.
Within the scope of this inspection, the inspectors noted one non-cited violation. This
violation involved improper entry by an individual into the radiological control area. Your
staffs appropriate corrective actions allowed us to ex~rcise discretionary enforcement for this
self-identified violation.
During this inspection, we noted that the Emergency Diesel Generator Fuei Injector Stud
problem, experienced in March 1993, is recurrent from a similar problem in June 1991.
Accordingly, we are concerned about your resolution of this matter and the potential adverse.
impact on operability and safety posed by the wrong material being installed in the diesels.
While we have confirmed that proper materials are currently installed, we look foward to the
resolution of this matter and your actions to prevent recurrence and assure safety .
