INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-272/93-03, 50-311193-03 AND
50-354/93-03
This letter transmits the report of the safety inspection conducted by Mr. H. J. Kaplan from
January 5-7, 1993, and Mr. S. Chaudhary from January 19-22, 1993, at the Salem Units 1
and 2 and Hope Creek Generating Station in Hancocks Bridge, New Jersey~ Mr. Kaplan and
Mr. S. Chaudhary discussed the findings of the inspection with members of your staff during
the exit meetings at the generating stations on January 7, 1993, and
- January 22, 1993.
This inspection was directed toward areas important to public health and safety. Areas
examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I inspection report, which
is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective
examinations of procedures .and representative records, interviews with personnel, and
observations by the inspectors.
The inspection revealed that your reactor water chemistry results conformed to Technical.
Specification requirements, and that the new piping material, Al-6XN stainless steel, installed
. in the service water systems at Salem and Hope Creek, is performing well. Additionally, the
snubber/pipe program was found to be acceptable.
