SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF MEETING WITH PUBLIC SERVICE ELECTRIC AND GAS COMPANY (PSE&G) ON MAY 6, 1992, REGARDING CURRENT LICENSING ISSUES A meeting was held at the NRC offices in Rockville, Maryland, on May 6, 1992, to discuss current licensing issues and to discuss the NRC's concerns with PSE&G's responses to generic issues as noted in the latest Salem and Hope Creek SALP reports.

The licensee discussed responses to generic issues that were mentioned in the NRC's SALP report.

The licensee's discussion included their perception of the problems with their generic issue responses and their plan to address the staff's concerns.

The corrective actions to be taken by the licensee include having the licensing department involved earlier in the generic issue response process.

Additionally, the licensee stated that they will quickly propose meetings to resolve technical differences or to clarify the NRC's questions.

The licensee will also improve their project planning, monitoring and control processes.

The NRC staff members attending the meeting felt that the licensee fully understood the concerns raised by the NRC and that the licensee's actions should improve their future responses to generic issues.

Additionally, the status of amendment requests that had been submitted for NRC approval was discussed for both Salem and Hope Creek.

Several amendment requests being developed by PSE&G were also discussed.
