Subject: Combined Inspection Nos. 50-272/91-22, 50-311/91-22 and 50-354/91-18
This letter refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Ms. L. Peluso and Dr. J. Jang
of this office on August 26-30, 1991, at the Salem and Hope Creek Site, Hancocks Bridge,
New Jersey, and at the Research and Testing Laboratory, Maplewood, New Jersey, of
activities authorized by NRC License Nos. DPR-70, DPR-75 and NPF-57, and to the
discussions of our findings held by Ms. Peluso with Mr. Vondra and others of your staff at
the conclusion of the inspection.
Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I Inspection Report
which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective
examinations of procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, and
observations by the inspector.
Within the scope of this inspection, the Meteorological Monitoring Program is noteworthy in
ensuring that meteorological instruments were operable, maintained and calibrated by
qualified personnel and that meteorological data were obtainable from various locations on
and off site. The Radiological Environmental Monitoring Progr~m has been effectively
implemented. No deficiencies or violations were identified .
