SUBJECT:

PUBLIC SERVICE ELECTRIC AND GAS COMPANY, CONFIRMATION OF ITS RESPONSE TO NRC BULLETIN 88-10 AND SUPPLEMENT 1 TO BULLETIN 88-10, SALEM GENERATING STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. 71347/71348)

By letters dated April 3, 1989, June 13 1989 and November 7, 1989, Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G~ responded to Bulletin 88-10.

As a result of Supplement 1 to Bulletin 88-10, corrections to their April 3, 1989 and June 13, 1989 submitta1s were required and were forwarded by letter dated November 7, 1989.

In its November 7, 1989 response, the licensee confirmed that activities required to address the issue of substandard molded case circuit breakers discussed in Bulletin 88-10 will be performed on an acceptable schedule.

The proposed schedule shows completion of the actions by startup from the tenth refueling outage at Salem Generating Station, Unit 1 and by startup from the sixth refueling outage at Salem Generating Station, Unit 2.

A detailed technical review of the licensee's response has not been performed; however, the area may be subject to inspection at a later date. If a subsequent inspection identifies deficiencies in the licensee's actions or responses, this issue will be reopened.

Presently, we consider this action completed.
