Subject: NRC Combined Inspection Report No. 50-272/89-09; 50-311/89-08
A routine radiological controls inspection was conducted by Mr. R. L. Nimitz
during the period April 24-28, 1989. Areas reviewed during the inspection
included licensee action on previous inspection findin~s and radiological
controls during the Unit 1 refueling outage.
The findings of the inspection
were discussed with Mr. J. Gueller on April 28, 1989.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations of NRC requirements were
identified.
The findings of the inspection indicate action was taken to
strengthen routine radiological control practices, improve supervisory oversight
and control of work, improve industrial safety, impro.ve technician and
supervisor understanding of procedure requirements and enhance the quality of
procedures. Observations indicate significant improvement in these areas
relative to NRC observations detailed in NRC Combined Inspection Report No.
50-272/88-18; 50-311/88-18.
However, observations during the inspection
indicate continuing problems in the area of facility housekeeping.
This area
appears to need further management attention.
