SALEM UNIT NO. 2 SALEM GENERATING STATION MONTHLY OPERATING

SUMMARY

UNIT NO.

2 FEBRUARY 19 8 9 The Unit began the period operating at full power and continued to operate at essentially fully power until February 5, 1989.

On February 5, 1989, following a power reduction from 90% to 60%, the Unit experienced a Reactor Trip on No. 23 Steam Generator (S/G) Low Level concurrent with a Steam Flow/Feed Flow mismatch.

At the time of the event, Nos. 23A and 23B Circulating Water Pumps and No. 23 Heater Drain Pump were out of service.

Four minutes prior to the unit trip, No. 22 S/G Feed Pump (SGFP) had tripped due to low suction pressure.

It was found that the low suction trip setpoint for No. 22 SGFP responed high due to failure of the low suction pressure switch.

The Unit was returned to service on February 10, 1989, and power was held at 60% to maintain condenser delta T's due to several circulators being out of service for repairs.

On February 14, 1989, the Unit was restored to full power following the return of a circulator to service.

Between February 14, 1989 and February 21, 1989, several minor load reductions were performed to address condenser tube leak problems.

On February 21, 1989, the Unit was restored to full power and continued to operate at that level throughout the remainder of the period.
