This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr. H. F. vanKessel
of this office on November 16-20, 1987, of activities authorized by NRC License
No. DPR-70 at Salem Generating Station Unit 1, Hancocks Bridge, New Jersey and
to the discussions of our findings held by Mr. vanKessel with Mr. J. W. Zupko,
Jr. and other *members of your staff at the conclusion of the fnspection.
Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I
Inspection_ Report which is ~nclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the
inspection consisted of *selective examinations of procedures and representativ~
records, ~nterviews with personnel, and observati.ons by the -inspector.
