Combined Inspection 50-272/87-18 and 50-311/87-20
This refers to a special team inspection led by T. Kenny of this office, on
June 15, 1987 to June 19, 1987, at the Salem Nuclear Generating Station,
Hancocks Bridge, New Jersey.
The inspection was directed toward the feedwater
system, which is part of the Balance of Plant (BOP), in order to assess how
such inspections can be effectively incorporated into the routine inspection
program.
The results of the inspection will also help determine whether
greater emphasis should be placed on inipecting BOP systems.
The inspection
was directed in the areas of maintenance, surveillance, design changes, and
management oversight as related to the feedwater system for both Salem units.
The team also conducted interviews with operators, technicians and supervisory
personnel.
The findings were discussed with Mr. J. M. Zupko, Jr. of your
staff.
Within the scope of this inspection no violations were identified.
However,
within the attached inspection report strengths and weaknesses are listed as
determined by the inspection team.
