SUBJECT:

RELIEF FROM INSERVICE INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS SECTION XI By letter dated June 21, 1984, and supplemented by letter dated August 15, 1984, and in accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 50.55a(g), you requested relief from certain hydrostatic test requirements of the 1972 Edition of the ASME Code,Section XI.

Your request has been granted.

The relief permits you to (1) utilize the alternative testing proposed regarding hydrostatic testing temperatures to be 11not less than 100°F 11 for Class 1, 2, and 3 components and (2) the use of pneumatic testing as an acceptable method of pressure testing certain systems.

The staff has concluded that the use of the provisions of the 1980 Edition through the winter 1981 Addenda of Section XI is acceptable.

Details of our evaluation are contained in the Safety Evaluation enclosed.

The request for relief complies with the standards and requirements of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended (the Act), and the Commission 1s rules and regulations. The Commission has made appropriate findings as required by the Act and the Commission's rules and regulations in 10 CFR Chapter I.

Pursuant to 10 CFR 51.32, the Commission has determined that the granting of this Relief will have no significant impact on the environmental
