Dear Mr. Varga:

SALEM GENERATING STATION UNIT NOS. 1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-272r 50-311 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE REGULATORY EFFECTIVENESS REVIEW REPORT FOR SALEM UNITS 1 AND 2 In response to the concern raised in Enclosure 1 to your letter dated July 19, 1983 (Item 1, re:

RER report section 2.2.1),

the equipment required to achieve compliance has been budgeted for 1984.

It is anticipated that the equipment will be installed and operational during the fourth quarter of 1984.

In the interim, the compensatory measures described in section 3.2.1.6 of the Salem Generating Station security plan, Revision 8, will remain in force.

Upon installation of the equipment, the SGS security Plan will be revised to reflect that fact and to formalize the commitment.

If you have any further questions concerning this matter, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely, CC:

NRC Resident Inspector Salem Generating Station NRC Licensing Project Manager
