Mr. Steven A. Varga, Chief Operating Reactors Branch 1 Division of Licensing Gentlemen:
REVISED COMPLETION DATES TMI-RELATED ITEMS NO. 1 UNIT SALEM NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION DOCKET NO. 50-272 Our letters of De6ember 7, 1981 and February 11, 1982 ad-vised you of difficulties encountered in meeting committed completion dates for several TMI~related items, provided re-vised completion dates for these items, and justification for continued operation during the interim period.
The pur-pose of this letter is to provide additional information in this regard.
Installation of the High Range Containment Radiation Moni-tors and the Plant Vent Particulate, Iodine, and Noble Gas Radiation Monitors (NUREG-0737,Section II.F.l) is expected to be completed by the end of the current refueling outage.
Calibration of these monitors will proceed upon completion of installation, but is expected to require approximately two to four weeks, due to the complexity and quantity of work involved.
We therefore anticipate completion of these items by April 30, 1982.
Installation of the Reactor Vessel Level Instrumentation System (NUREG-0737,Section II.F.2) is nearly complete.
Connections to the primary system have been made and all piping and instrumentation (with the exception of a few in-dicators) has been installed and calibrated.
It is expected at this time that the remaining work will be completed by the end of the current refueling outage.
