By means of this-letter I am providing two items of information that you requested during the rate hearing for Salem Unit No. 1 on December 8, 1980.

Enclosed is the April 9, 1968 letter from Peter A. Morris (USAEC) to Robert I. Smith (PSE8cG) wherein the AEC staff requested additional infor-mation related to seismic design of Salem Unit No. 1 (CF Section 7). This letter was designated Exhibit RC-12 at the hearing.

You also requested that a determination be made regarding initiation of the meeting that was held on June 19, 1979 between the NRC staff and representatives of PSE&G.

I have discussed this meeting with Mr. Gary Zech, who was the staff Project Manager for Salem Unit No. 1 at that time, and with Mr. Marshall Grotenhuis, the back-up Project Manager.

Neither of these gentlemen remember the details leading up to this meeting but assume that the meeting was called because the licensee (PSE&G) notified the staff that it had information that it would like to bring to the staff's attention.

Please let me know if this information is not responsive to your requests.

Enclosure:

Letter from Morris to Smith Sincerely,.

William J. Ross, Project Manager Operating Reactors Branch #1 Division of Licensing I ~~ICE~
