.ro 0 :c We have-reviewed your test procedure, "SUP 80.1; Appendix G,_ Feedwater Hammer Test" submitted as an attachment to your :letter dated July 7,.1980 *.. Our comments are as foll O\\~S: * - -- - *.
- 1) _ The procedure should be revised to provide information regarding test prerequisites, precautions-, special-test.equipment and instrumentation, step-by-step test instruttions, and data *logs; 2}
The test sh~uld be conducted with. a feedwater fl~w-_rate which cover~ the flow rate expected assuming ope-ration of all three auxiliary* feedwater pumps (nominally at least 440 gpm per steam generator);
- 3) Critical pipe hangers should be located.in three dimensions *with res-pect to fixed reference points. After the test, they stfould be remeasured to see if any change has _occurred;
- 4) Pressur:e transmitters used in the test' should have a time constant 1 ess
- than tl1e expected _time constant* of t~e* shock wave; and 5)* Strip chart and other records of test pressure and temperature should be
- saved.
After the test procedure has been revised in-accordance with *the above comments, it should be resubmitted for NRC review and approval.
