OPEN ITEMS COMPLETION SCHEDULE NO. 2 UNIT SALEM GENERATING STATION Public Service Electric and Gas Company hereby submits, in the enclosure to this letter, its completion schedule for those items identified at a meeting with the NRC staff on August 15, 1980 at the Salem Site.

FIRE PROTECTION SCHEDULE FOR COMPLETION OF OPEN ITEMS NO. 2 UNIT SALEM GENERATING STATION The fire protection modifications identified in Appendix E to SER Supplement 4 have all been completed with the following exceptions:

Item 27 Item 29 Items 32 and 36 Item 33 Item 37 Installation of an additional smoke detector in the new and spent fuel pool area will be completed by September 15, 1980.

Installation of the portable radio system will be completed by January 1, 1981, due to FCC licensing requirements.

Installation of the ventilation dampers in accessible plant areas will be completed by January 1, 1981.

Dampers in areas that are not accessible will be installed during the first available outage of appropriate duration following delivery of material in September, 1980.

This outage shall occur not later than January 31, 1981.

Installation of sprinkler systems in the charging pump, AFW and diesel oil storage tank rooms will be completed by November 1, 1980.

Installation of an automatic Halon system will be completed during the first available outage of appropriate duration.

This outage shall occur not later than January 31, 1981.

The alternate shutdown equipment will be installed by April 1, 1981.

The fire barrier installation will be completed by November 1, 1980 and the cable wrapping will be completed by April 1, 1981.

CONTROL ROOM DESIGN MODIFICATIONS The SER identifies 5 items to be completed prior to escalation above 5% power.

The following items will be completed by September 1, 1980:

increase level of audible alarms and installation of lamp test recept-acle in console.

The Emergency Operating Procedures will be revised and retyped by September 5, 1980.

The requirements to increase operator awareness of vertical meter failure and permanent attachment of component labels have been completed.

PURGE ALARM The purge alarm identified in Section 6.2.3 of SER Supplement 4 will be installed by September 1, l980.

TURBINE DATA The requested turbine data will be provided by September 30,. 1980.~

ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATION The environmental qualification information requested in Section 3.11 6£ SER Supplement 4 will be provided by August 25, l980.

AFW RELIABILITY The analysis of the effects of the use of brackish water in the steam generators will be provided by September 1, l980.

RCS VENTS The additional information requested will be provided by August 25, l980.

CONTAINMENT FRACTURE TOUGHNESS*

The additional information requested will be provided by September 1, 1980.

SUMP DEBRIS The additional information requested will be provided by August 25, 1980.

Q LIST The additional information requested will be provided by August 25, 1980.

BULLETIN 79-07 The additional information requested will be provided by September 1, 1980.

  • t' IN-PLANT RADIATION MONITORING The additional information requested will be provided by August 25, 1980.

LICENSE CHANGE REQUESTS The License Change Request (LCR) for relief from the Technical Specification Item 8.7 to plug the Row 1 tubes in the steam generator and the LCR to modify the Radiation Protection Organization to meet the Technical Specification requirements of Item 9.4 will be forwarded to the NRC by August 27, 1980.

PILOT MONITORING OF EMERGENCY PROCEDURES Time has been scheduled on a simulator at Zion, Illinois for August 22 & 23 to run selected Emergency Instructions with the NRC Staff.

An additional procedure walkthru has been scheduled at the Salem Plant Site for August 26.

This walkthru will be conducted by the normal on-shift crew and will be observed by the NRC Staff.

Appropriate necessary ~edifications will be made to procedures as a result of these reviews.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS A meeting with the NRC to resolve open items on the Technical Specifications will be held on August 19, 1980.

SHIFT STAFFING Additional information requested will be provided by August 22, 1980.

TURBINE INSPECTION Inspection of the low pressure turbine rotor discs on No. 2 Unit will be conducted during the first refueling outage.

SAFETY REVIEW GROUP Public Service commitment on the Safety Review Group was submitted by letter to the Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation on August 19, 1980.

DEGRADED CORE TRAINING Sufficient licensed operator and technical support staff to operate Salem No. 2 Unit will complete degraded core damage training by September 1, 1980.

Training for all licensed operators and technical support staff will be completed by September 18, 1980.

A summary of the training material will be submitted on August 20, 1980.

DATED REQUIREMENTS The following information supplements our August 8, 1980 submittal.

II.B.l II.B.3 II. F.1 Reactor Coolant System Vents - Modifications will be completed during an outage which will occur not later than January 31, 1981.

Post Accident Samplinq - Modifications will be completed no later than May 31, 1981.

Containment Water Level -

As a result of the long lead time for environmentally qualified equipmentr installa-tion of this system will not be complete until May 31, 1981.

As an interim, the existing level system has been modified to provide coverage for RHR NPSH per-missi ves and maximum flood level indication and alarm.

Containment Pressure - Modifications will be completed during an outage occurring no later than January 31, 1981.

High Range Containment Radiation - If equipment is delivered December, 1980 as scheduled by Victoreen, Inc.

the system will be installed during an outage occurring not later than January 31, 1981.

Noble Gas Effluent Monitor Installation of this monitor will be completed no later than December 31, 1981.

EMERGENCY DRILL Public Service will be ready to perform an emergency drill August 30, 1980.

Following completion of this drill, we will be ready for a full power license.
