DECEMBtR.?--8 1919 Docket No. 50-272 Mr. F. P. Librizzi, General Manager Electric Production*

Production Department Public Servi~e Electric and Gas Company 80 Park Pl ace, Room 7221 Newark, New Jersey 07101

Dear Mr. Librizzi:

  • e

SUBJECT:

INADVERTENT SAFETY INJECTION DURING COOLDOHN

~-

The Division of Operating Reactors has completed a generic bounding review

. on this subject and concludes that no further licensing action is necessary at this time since it is likely that a facility could withstand more than fifty inadvertent ECCS actuations.

vie have concluded~ however, that it would be prudent, should a facility experience more than twenty-five such injectio_ns, for you to consider a plant spedfic analysis for that facility which would identify more precisely the additional number of actuations*

that can be safely accommodated at that facility.

A copy _of our Safety Evaluation Report is enclosed.
