1 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Staff Phone Call with the U.S. Army Regarding the NRC/DoD Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)- March 5, 2018 Attendees:
U.S. Army staff (Bryan Frey; Veronica Petrosky; Tim Mikulski; Julie Clements; Matt Diac; and Marc Elrod)
U.S. NRC staff (Richard Chang; David Misenhimer; Rachel Browder; and Ray Kellar)
Discussion Summary:
NRC staff provided a summary of the NRC/DoD MOU (see enclosure 1)
U. S. Army staff discussed Sharpe Army Depot and walked through their enclosed slides (see enclosure 2).
Other items discussed in the conversation included:
o DoD will check to determine service provider jurisdiction at this site (i.e., Federal or State);
o DoD will send NRC publicly available documents about the previous characterization and cleanup activities; o It was discussed that there is minimal local interest in the ongoing cleanup activities; o The areas with ongoing activities are Sites 33/29 (e.g., SHAD-41) which is approximately 350 feet x 90 feet in size; o Radium paint may have been burned in SHAD-41; o Shad-41 was identified in 2012 for follow-up; o Radium screening is being performed at 2 pCi/g; and o This site is listed on the National Priorities List.
