NOTICE OF INDIRECT TRANSFER OF LICENSE - QUAD CITIES NUCLEAR POWER STATION, UNITS 1AND2 (TAC NOS. MA3516 AND MA3517).
Dear Mr. Kingsley:
Enclosed is t_he subject notice related to the application dated September 10, 1998, accompanied by cover letters dated September 10, 1998, and supplemented by letter dated September 16, 1998, and attachments thereto from CalEnergy Company, Inc. (CalEnergy) and MidAmerican Energy Company (MidAmerican), through counsel, Roy P. Lessy, Jr., and through Commonwealth Edison Company. This application seeks approval under 10 CFR 50.80 of the indirect transfer of the licenses to the extent held by MidAmerican with respect to its 25 percent ownership interest in the Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station, Units 1 and 2 (Quad Cities).
CalEnergy and MidAmerican Energy Holdings -Company (MAHC) have entered into a _merger agreement, under which CalEnergy will effectively acquire MAHC, the current parent company of MidAmerican. MidAmerican essentially will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of what is presently CalEnergy and remain a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) licensee to the same extent as described in the existing facility operating licenses for Quad Cities. Commonwealth Edison Company will remain the operator of the facility and agent for MidAmerican.
This notice is being forwarded to the Office of the Federal Register for publication.
