SUMMARY
OF MARCH 7, 2018, PUBLIC MEETING WITH KOREA HYDRO AND NUCLEAR POWER CO. LTD. TO DISCUSS PROPOSED INSPECTIONS, TESTS, ANALYSES AND ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA FOR THE ADVANCED POWER REACTOR 1400 DESIGN On March 7, 2018, a Category 1 public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Co. Ltd. (KHNP) at the NRC offices in Rockville, Maryland. The meeting notice was posted on the NRC website and is also in the NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under Accession Number ML18004B828. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the proposed inspections, tests, analyses, and acceptance criteria (ITAAC) for the Advanced Power Reactor 1400 (APR1400) design certification application that was submitted to the NRC on December 23, 2014, and formally accepted for review on March 5, 2015. Enclosures 1 and 2 are the meeting agenda and attendance list for the meeting, respectively.
The staff described a request for additional information (RAI) provided to KHNP in draft form.
The staff reviewed the ITAAC tables and Section 1 of the Tier 1 document provided by KHNP as part of Revision 1 of the APR1400 design certification application. Based on this review, the staff compiled a list of wording changes to the ITAAC tables and Section 1 of the Tier 1 document. The draft RAI requested KHNP to make these changes or otherwise show that the ITAAC comply with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Section 52.47(b)(1).
KHNP representatives provided comments on some of the wording changes and there was a discussion of the NRC staffs reasons for requesting these changes. The RAI also requested KHNP address other questions identified by the staff regarding the ITAAC tables or otherwise show that the ITAAC comply with 10 CFR 52.47(b)(1).
