POWERING MICHIGAN"S PROGRESS Palisades Nuclear Plant: 27780 Blue Star Memorial Highway, Covert, Ml 49043 May 31, 1996 U S Nuclear Regulatory Commission Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 DOCKET 50-255 - LICENSE DPR PALISADES PLANT SUBMITTAL OF REVISED IPEEE REPORT BASED ON REANALYSIS OF INTERNAL FIRES On June 30, 1995, Consumers Power Company submitted the Palisades response to Generic Letter 88-20, Supplement 4, "Individual Plant Examination of External Events (IPEEE) for Severe Accident Vulnerabilities." The results of the IPEEE demonstrated acceptable plant performance for seismic and other external events. The submittal noted that the Fire Protection Program and Appendix R analyses were in the process of being upgraded, and the Fire IPEEE would be requantified when results of that upgrade effort became available.

Based on the results of the Fire IPEEE requantification and sensitivity studies for

• . important areas, a schedule was submitted on April 1, 1996, for implementation of the necessary and cost beneficial improvements to plant operation or configuration. The submittal also committed to revising the IPEEE Report to include the results of the

.internal fire reanalysis.

'this letter submits Revision 1 of the IPEEE Report. (The revised pages are noted as Revision 1, May 22, 1996.) The report reflects the upgraded Fire Protection Program and Appendix R analyses. The revision shows that the IPEEE results for seismic, fire, and other external events continue to be acceptable. No further evaluation or action is required to satisfy the requirements of Generic Letter 88-20, Supplement 4.
