SUBJECT:
- RECORD OF TELEPHONE CONVERSATION, STATUS OF PALISADES PRESSURIZED
- THERMAL SHOCK (PTS) REVIEW On February 28, 1995, a telephone call was held between the staff and Palisades plant to discuss the status of the Palisades PTS review.
This note provides documentation of that discu~sion. The staff informed Palisades that it is currently reviewing the information Palisades provided in recent submittals (November 1994 - January 1995), to show compliance with 10 CFR 50.61.
These submittals updated Palisades? PTS evaluation which included the results of testing performed on weld samples from Palisades' retired steam generators.
At the time of the telephone call, the staff had not reached a final determination.
Based on the results of the review to date, the staff has concluded that by performing calculations in strict complianc~ with 10 CFR 50.61, Palisades would not reach th~ screening criteria until the year 2000.
However, the staff has con.cerns about the variability in the chemistry data and is performing additional analysis to better understand the issue:

The review is expected to be completed within the next few weeks and a safety evaluation should be issu*ed by the e.nd of March... A'meeting to discuss the results of the review could be scheduled after the licensee has received the safety evaluation and has time to develop questions and prepare for discussion.*
Palisades ;stated it is consider~ng annealing to get to end o~ license.
Discussions on annealing will continue following issuan<;:e of the PTS safety evaluation.
