GENERIC LETTER 88-20, SUPPLEMENT 4, INDIVIDUAL PLANT EXAMINATION OF EXTERNAL EVENTS FOR SEVERE ACCIDENT VULNERABILITIES This letter provides the annual update of the status of the Palisades response to Generic Letter 88-20 Supplement 4, Individual Plant Examination of External Events (IPEEE) for Severe Accident Vulnerabilities.

The committed completion date of the IPEEE is June 30, 1995, and the project is proceeding in a manner that will support completion by that date.

The status of the major milestones for the IPEEE is discussed below.

The development of the seismic hazard curves is expected to be completed by the end of October 1993.

This is behind our original schedule of the first quarter 1993, but is not expected to impact the final completion date.

The soil failure evaluation is expected to be completed by the end *of November 1993. This is also behind our original schedule of second quarter 1993, but, also, is not expected to impact the final completion date.

Compiling the safe shutdown equipment list is almost finished and is expected to be completed on schedule by the end of third quarter 1993.

Performing the relay review is expected to start in the third quarter 1993, and be completed on schedule in the first quarter 1994.

2 Performing the equipment walkdowns is progressing and is expected to be completed in the third quarter 1993, ahead of the second quarter 1994 original scheduled completion.

Compiling the walkdown data will start upon completion of the walkdowns and is expected to be completed by the end of fourth quarter 1993. This is, again, ahead of the second quarter 1994 original completion schedule.

Quantification of the PRA is expected to start in the third quarter 1993 and be completed on schedule in the third quarter 1994.

Initial screening of the external events, beyond the five that the generic letter requested review of, is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 1993.

Evaluation of outliers is expected to begin in the first quarter 1994 following the compilation of walkdown data and be completed on schedule in the fourth quarter 1994.

The draft final.report is expected to be completed on schedule by the end of fourth quarter 1994.

The fire analysis has been started using the FIVE methodology and is expected to be completed by the end of the fourth quarter 1994.

The internal review of the final report is expected to be completed on schedule by the end of the first quarter 1995.

The final report is expected to be issued to the NRC on schedule, June 30, 1995.
