Docket No. 50-255 Consumers Power Company ATTN:

David P. Hoffman Vice President Nuclear Operations 1945 West Parnall Road Jackson, MI 49201 Gentlemen:

M~R 16 1990 II.

This is to acknowledge receipt of your letter of February 21, 1990, which included a description of the scope and objectives for the 1990 Palisades Emergency Preparedness Exercise scheduled for May 22, 1990.

After a telephone discussion between Mr. Anthony Katarsky, Senior Nuclear Emergency Planner, and Mr. James Patterson of my staff, an agreement was reached that environmental sampling to include soil, water, and vegetation will be added to the exercise objectives. This sampling would be conducted by the offsite field teams.

We.

have no other concerns about the exercise objectives, beyond what we discussed with Mr. Katarsky.

When we receive the entire scenario package, we will review it and provide comments to Mr. Katarsky.

o If you have any questions or wish to propose changes to these approved exercise objectives, please have your staff contact Mr. James Patterson of my staff at (708) 790-5536.
