Docket No. 50-255 Consumers Power Company ATTN:
Gordon L. Heins Senior Vice President Energy Supply 212 West Michigan Avenue Jackson, MI 49201 Gentlemen:
DEC 0 9 1988 Thank you for your letter dated September 28, 1988, in response to our August 15, 1988 letter which described a Fitness for Duty allegation that.
drugs are used by night shift workers and that drug'tests*are not performed on the night shift.
We note that your Human Resource Director (HRD) and his staff received similar allegations with more detailed information.
Your response indicates that there have been random drug tests performed on the night shift and there has been no 11statistically significant difference 11 between the six random tests performed on the various shifts between January and August 1988.
Your August
- (night shift) test yielded two positive test results for controlled substances, thereby substantiating that portion of the allegation.
The allegation that drug tests are not performed on the night shift was not substantiated. It appears that the implementation of your Fitness for Duty Program is meeting program objectives and the identified steps taken to resolve and investigate the allegation were appropriate.
We have no further questions at this time.
A copy of this letter and your September 28, 1988 letter, excluding the attachment, will be placed in the Public Document Room as required by 10 CFR 2.790.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
