TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS CHANGE REQUEST -
AREA MONITOR SURVEILLANCE METHOD Enclosed is a request for change to the Palisades Technical Specifications.
The radiation area monitor in the Evaporator Control Panel area is being replaced during the present refueling outage.
The old monitor system has a remotely operated integ*ral radiation check source while the new system uses an electronic check "source" via a change in the detector high voltage.
The replacement is being made to improve the reliability of the area monitor.
Replacement of other area monitors is also being planned during future outages.
The proposed change will allow for surveillance by both the old and mew methods and applies to both types of monitors.
The change to the Technical Specifications will only affect the monthly surveillance test.
The daily instrumentation check and refueling interval calibration which exposes the monitor to a known external radiation source will not be affected.
A similar change was approved as Amendment 94 by letter dated January 30, 1986.
Amendment 94 provided for an electronic circuit check for the Containment High Radiation_Channels.
A check for $1'50.00 is enclosed as required by 10CFR170.12.
