MAIN STEAM LINE BREAK SINGLE FAILURE BACKFIT COMMITMENT SCHEDULE Consumers Power Company letter dated May 23, 1985 and entitled "Evaluation of Palisades MSLB Single Failure Backfits" submitted a final Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) and cost-benefit analysis on modifications that would reduce the likelihood of the two-steam generator blow down event and Main Steam Line Break with Continued Feedwater Addition event.
The purpose of this letter is to identify and summarize the commitments and changes to previous commitments which resulted from the study submitted in the May 23, 1985 letter.
These commitments are identified as resolution to SEP Topic XV-2 "Spectrum of Steam Piping Failures Inside and Outside Containment" and IE Bulletin 80-04 "Main Steam Line Break with Continued Feedwater Addition."
SEP Topic XV-2 Commitments
- 1.
MSIV Replacement -
No replacement of the present MSIV is planned based upon results of the May 23, 1985 submittal.
If replacement.was determined to be required, it would have to be scheduled for the next refueling outage approximately two years after the completion of the NRC review.
- 2.
Conden~ate system as a backup to Auxiliary Feedwater - Procedures modifications which permit the alignment of the condensate system as a backup to Auxiliary Feedwater are being planned as part of the emergency procedure upgrade required by TMI Action Plan Ite.m I. C. 1 presently planned for completion December 1986.
- 3.
EEQ Upgrade - No upgrade to the EEQ program to include a set of equipment qualified to the two Steam Generator Blowdown envelope is being planned based upon results of the May 23, 1985 submittal.

Feedwater Stop Valve Circuitry - Consumers Power Company letter dated 2
July 26, 1983 committed to modifying during the 1985 refueling outage control circuitry of the main feedwater stop valves to close on low steam generator pressure.
Based on the results of our* May 23, 1985 submittal and pending NRC review, we have stopped all work on this project. If this modification was determined to be required, it would have to be scheduled for the refueling outage that is approximately one year after the completion of the NRC review.
- 2.
Feedwater Bypass Valve Backfit - Consumers Power Company letter dated July 26, 1983 committed to installing a redundant valve in the feedwater bypass line during the 1985 refueling outage.
Based on the results of our May 23, 1985 submittal, and pending NRC review, we have stopped all work on this project.
