ANNUAL EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS EXERCISE - PALISADES PLANT Your letter dated Ap~il 17, 1984 requested an exemption from Appendi~ E to 10 CFR Part 50 to exclude State and county participation in the.*

Palisades annual emergency preparedness exercise scheduled for Au~ust *21, 1984. This request was based on a 1 etter dated January 18, 1984 that

  • you received from the State of Michigan which notified you that the State:

had exercised its option under 44 CFR 350 t~ exclude State and. local governments from participation. in the August 1984 exercise.

On July 6, 1984, a revision to Appendix E to fo CFR Part 50 was published in the Federal Register (49 FR ~7733) which, among other_provisionss relaxes the frequency of participation of State and local gove'rnments in emergency preparedness exercises. The new rule requir~s that State and.

local governments participate in emergency preparedness exercises every

.*2 years *with a provision for remedial exercises to assure that deficiencies
