In our August 14, 1981 submittal to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, we stated that an appropriate schedule to address this issue would be established about February 1983.

However, in the interim, Lawrence Livermore Laboratories (LLL) has undertaken the task of performing a probabilistic assessment of the susceptibility of Reactor Coolant System (RCS) main loop piping to guillotine type failures.

The results of this analysis should be completed by October 1, 1983 and the presentation to the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) is scheduled for December 1983.

Currently, the GEOG plans to provide LLL, by August 15, 1983, all necessary data in order to perform this analysis.

Consumers Power Company believes that t~I 2 probability of a guillotine break in the RCS is very small (approximately 10

) if only the direct loads of the RCS are included in the analysis.

An indirect rupture of the RCS could be caused by the failure of a major RCS support or by the impact. of a high energy missile such as a segment of a RCS flywheel.

Such indirect causes of a RCS guillotine break will be included in the LLL probabilistic analysis.
