CYCLE 5 RELOAD ROD BOW CONCERNS NRC letter dated October 29, 1981 identified possible concerns with the Palisades reload safety analysis for Cycle 5 in the area of DNBR penalty for fuel rod bowing.

Consumers Power Company, using the Exxon Nuclear proposed DNBR reduction model, which indicates no DNRB reduction for gap closures less than 50% contended that no DNBR penalty was required for Palisades Cycle 5, Based on telephone conversations with the NRC Staff; November 3, 1981, it is Consillliers Power Company's understanding that the concerns no longer exist due to the availability of supportive data referenced by Exxon.

This resolution means there is no required DNJ3R penalty associated with rod bow for the Palisades Plant Cycle 5 Operation.
