-ENCLOSURE,
TOPIC:
VIII-3.B, DC POWER SYSTEM BUS VOLTAGE MONITORING AND ANNUNCIATION I.
Introduction To assure the design adequacy of the de pov-1er system battery and bus
-voltage monitoring and annunciation schemes such that the operator can (1) prevent the loss cif an emergency de bus; or (2) take timely corrective action in the event of loss of an emergency de bus, we reviewed the de power system battery, battery charger, and bus voltage monitoring and annunciation design with respect to de power system operability status indication to the operator.
I I.
Review Criteria The review criteria are presented in Section 2 of EG&G Report 1286F.
III.
Related Safety Topics and Interfaces None IV.
Review Guidelines None V.
Evaluation As noted in EG&G Report 1286F, the Palisades control room has no indication of battery current, battery charger current, de bus voltage, or breaker/fuse status.
Therefore, the Palisades de power system monitoring is not in compliance with current licensing criteria.
However, in a letter dated July 14, 1981 (attached), the licensee orovided commitments to make some modifications to the de systems
~nd pro~ided a technical justification for not providing some of the required indicatibns in the control-room.
VI.
Conclusion The staff has concluded that the modifications proposed by the licensee in the July 14, 1981 letter provides a significant improvement in
- the design of the de systems and further modifications to satisfy the staff's review criteria can not provide a further significant improve-ment in the protection of the public health and safety.
