General Offices: 212 Weat Michigan Avenue, Jackson, Michigan 49201 * (517) 788-0650 May 15, 1981 Director~ Nuclear Reactor Regulation*

Att Mr Dennis M Crutchfield, Chief Operating Projects Branch No 5 US Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 DOCKET 50-255-LICENSE DPR PALISADES PLANT - SEP TOPIC III-10.A-THERMAL OVERLOAD PROTECTION FOR MOTORS OF MOTOR-OPERATED VALVES MAY 1 8 1981 ~ *o By letter dated July 11, 1980, the NRC transmitted for comment a draft evaluation of SEP Topic III-1~.A. This evaluation was based on infor-mation submitted by Consumers Power Co to the NRC in a letter dated March 3, 1980.

We have completed our review of the draft topic evalu-ation and find it acceptable without comment.

During our review, however, it was discovered that information on four valves was inadvertently omitted from our March 3, 1980 submittal.

These valves are MO 2169, MO 2170, MO 2140 and MO 2087.

For completeness, the control circuit schematics for these valves are attached.

As was the case with the other valves incl~ded in this topic, these four additional valves meet current licensing.criteria.

In all cases the automatic control circuits terminate valve motion with position limit switches, and the motor thermal overload devices provide alarms only.

The conclu-sions of the draft evaluation, therefore, remain valid without additional changes.
