1979 INSERVICE INSPECTION NO 6 PALISADES NUCLEAR PLANT The Inservice Inspection No 6 was conducted during the period S~tember 8, 1979 and May 28, 1980. . Inspections were conducted in accordance with the proposed inservice inspection and testing program submitted to the NRC pursuant to 10CFR50.55a(g), for which approval was granted on October 15, 1979 by the NRC, and in accordance with the Palisades Plant Technical Specifications, Sections 4.3 and 4.12. In the event of a conflict between the approved program and the Plant Technical Specifications, the more restrictive requirements were applied. The ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code,Section XI Edition cited in the approved inspection program and the p'1ant Technical Specifications is as follows:

ITEM EXAMINATION ACCEPTANCE Class 1, 2 and 3 . 74S75 74s75, High Energy Piping 74S75 74S75 The NDT examinations were performed using manual and mechanized ultrasonic (UT), liquid penetrant (PT), magnetic particle (MT), visual (VT), and radiogra:phic (RT) techniques. Indications were recorded following applicable procedures; reportable indications which were judged by the examination agencies to be relevant were documented and transmitted to CPCo :.personnel for evaluation.

CPCo evaluated all reportable indications and dispositioned each by either "accepting as is" or by performing the necessary cosmetic filing, grinding, repair or replacement.

Two main examination agencies were engaged in on-site NDT-ISI activities, Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) and CPCo System Protection and Laboratory Services (SP&LS). They were supplemented in repair activities by Conam Inspection, Trans-Eastern Inspection and UTEC/American X-Ray and Inspection.

Inservice tnspection No 4 was originally scheduled* to begin in August, 1977.

However, approval from the NRC allowed the.Palisades operating license to be amended to permit 18 months to elapse between refueling outages. Therefore, Inservice Inspection No 4 was postponed to January, 1978. Because of this postponenent, only two refueling outages, No 4 & 6 were available during the second i~terval third to conduct an ISI. Inservice Inspection No 4 was the first inspection conducted and Inservice Inspection No 6 was the last inspection conducted in the second interval third of the present ten year interval. Frequency requirements for the second interval third of the present interval third have been met.
