9n t*~ay ZO, 1979, Indiana and P.ichigan Pow;r Company notified the NRC of cracking in two feedwater lines at their D. C. Coe~ Unit 2 facility.

The cracking was

. discovered following a shutdo¥.'ll on May 19 to investigate leakage inside contain-ment.

Leaking circumferential cracks w:re identified in the 16-inch di~-neter f~d water elbows adjacent to two steam gen:ra~or nozz1e to elbow welds.

Subseque...-rt r.adic;raphic exarninafiorrs revealed cracks 'in an eight steam generator feedwater lines at this location on both units l and 2.

On May 25, 1979, a letter was sent to an FP.'R licensees by the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regu 1 a ffon which i nfor.ned 1 i cense:s of the D. C. Cook failures and rem.Jested sp-::ifi c inforamti on on f eedwater sys ts design, fabrication, ; nspection and oper-ating histories.

To further e;:plore the generic nature of the cracking problem
