Docket No. 50-220 DPR-63 Gentlemen:

Our letter of January 29, 1982 provided information regarding primary containment vent and purge valves.

In that letter we indicated that pressure control valves would be installed such that venting through the reactor building emergency ventilation system would not cause overpressurization of the filter housing.

We also stated that by December 31, 1982 we would complete an evaluation of the need for 'additional modifications to improve system performance.

As a result of further review of post Loss of Coolant Accident venting, redundant dedicated vent lines will be provided which tap in upstream of the containment vent and purge valves.

This precludes operation of the large diameter containment vent and purge valves.

These lines include individual pressure control valves and connect to the reactor building emergency ventilation system.

The system modification is designed to meet ASME Section 3, Class 2 requirements.

Procurement of pressure control valves to ASME Section 3, Class 2 requirements has been a problem.

This procurement problem will delay completion of the modification until the 1984 refueling outage.

We are continuing to review other system improvements and wi 11 provide you with an update by July 1, 1983.
