Dear Mr. Schwencer:
The following information is provided to clarify the Nine Mile Point Unit 2 position on implementation of NF-2130 with respect to bulk material certification.
The Preliminary Safety Analysis Report, Appendix C, requires that pipe supports be in accordance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel
- Code,Section III. Prior to 1982, the Code required that the material manufacturers certific'ation be provided for bulk material used for construction of supports.
The Summer 1982 Addenda of the Code allows the material supplier to provide the bulk material certification.
An example of bulk material is standard stock lengths of wide flange shapes used for construction of supports.
The Nine Mile Point Unit 2 position on bulk material certification is as follows.
The Summer 1982 Addendum of the
- Code, NF-2130 only, will be invoked.
This allows the material manufacturer's certification to be retained by the material supplier.
In turn, the material supplier will furnish a
supplier's certificate of compliance.
The material supplier's guality Assurance Program allows this method of certification.
This method of certification will assure suitable physical and chemical properties and an overall suitable level of quality of the bulk material.
The implementation of this policy at Nine Mile Point Unit 2 is being documented in a Preliminary Safety Analysis Report change and will be documented in the Final Safety Analysis Report.
