Docket Nos. 50-259, 50-260, and 50-296 Dr. Mark 0. Hedford, Vice President Nuclear Assurance, Licensing
& Fuels Tennessee Valley Authority 3B Lookout Place 1101 Market Street Chattanooga, Tennessee 37402-2801
Dear Dr. Hedford:
SUBJECT:
SUPPLEMENTAL SAFETY EVALUATION OF STEEL DESIGN CRITERIA FOR THE BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR POWER PLANT UNITS 1, 2, AND 3 (TAC NOS.
- H80618, M80619, AND H80620)
This letter provides the NRC staff evaluation of a submittal by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), dated July 31,
- 1992, addressing open items from the staff's July 13, 1992 safety evaluation of the long-term design criteria for lower drywell steel platforms and miscellaneous steel at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant (BFN), Units 1, 2, and 3.
These criteria were submitted by TVA in a letter dated June 12, 1991, with supplemental information provided on February 6, 1992.
As discussed in the enclosed safety evaluation, the Browns Ferry steel design criteria are acceptable, with the exception of the use of ductility ratio.
The staff is continuing its review of TVA's September 30, 1992 submittql regarding the open item on use of a ductility ratio, and will provide ag supplemental safety evaluation on this topic.
If you have questions on these
- issues, please contact Joe Williams, Browns Ferry Unit 3 Project Manager, at (301) 504-1470.
Sincerely, Original signed by Victor Nerses for Frederick J.
