REGARDING REACTOR PROTECTION SYSTEM CIRCUIT PROTECTOR TRIP LEVEL SETPOINTS (TAC NOS. 76898,

76899, AND 76900)

The NRC staff has reviewed Tennessee Valley Authority's (TVA) application to amend the Browns Ferry Technical Specifications (TS) dated June 4, 1990, regarding the requirements for Reactor Protection System circuit protector trip level setpoints.

As a consequence of this review, we determined that additional information from TVA will be necessary to enable the staff to complete its safety evaluation of this proposed TS amendment.

Please provide us with your response to the enclosed request for additional information (RAI) as soon as possible, but no later than October 24, 1990, in order that we can continue to support your schedule for restart of Unit 2.

The reporting and/or recordkeeping requirements contained in this letter affect fewer than ten respondents.

Therefore, OMB clearance is not required under Public Law 96-511.

ENCLOSURE REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RPS CIRCUIT PROTECTOR TRIP LEVEL SETPOINT EVALUATION TENNESSEE VAI LEY AUTHORITY BROl!NS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS I, 2, AND 3 By letter dated June 4, 1990, TYA submitted an application to amend the Technical Specifications (TS) requirements for the Reactor Protection System (RPS) Circuit Protector Trip Level Setpoints.

The staff requests TVA to provide the following information in order to complete its evaluation.

1.

Provide an aralysis which determines worst case components for overvoltage, undervoltage, or underfrequercy.

2.

Provide the documentation fromi the manufacturer which forms the basis for the analysis in Item 1 above.

3.

The staff previously approved TS-264 on the same subiect last year.
